Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy(GAHT)

GAHT helps align physical traits with gender identity. For transgender women (male-to-female), it involves estrogen and anti-androgens to develop features like breast growth and softer skin. For transgender men (female-to-male), testosterone induces facial and body hair growth, muscle gain, and voice deepening. Treatments are administered via pills, patches, gels, or injections, with regular medical monitoring for safety. GAHT is personalized and often combined with counseling and surgical options. It aims to reduce gender dysphoria and improve quality of life.

GLP-1 Medications

GLP-1 medications are drugs that mimic a hormone in your body called GLP-1, which helps control blood sugar and appetite. Originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, these medications have also been found to help with weight loss. They work by reducing hunger, slowing digestion, and making you feel full longer, which can lead to eating less.

Currently, some GLP-1 medications, such as semaglutide (brand name Wegovy), are approved specifically for weight management in people who are overweight or obese, especially when combined with lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. They are typically given as injections once a week. These medications have shown to be effective in helping many people lose a significant amount of weight and improve overall health. However, they should always be used under medical supervision.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

HRT is a treatment that uses hormones to compensate for a decline or imbalance, often prescribed for women during menopause or with hormonal imbalances. It typically involves estrogen alone or combined with progesterone to alleviate symptoms caused by decreasing hormone levels.

Benefits of HRT

  • Symptom relief: Reduces hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.

  • Bone health: Helps prevent osteoporosis and fractures.

  • Mood and well-being: May improve mood, sleep, and overall sense of well-being.

  • Weight management: While HRT can support metabolic health, its direct impact on weight loss is limited; maintaining a balanced diet and exercise remains essential.

Note: HRT is personalized based on individual health needs and risks. Consulting a healthcare provider is important to determine if it’s appropriate and safe.
